Body Fat Types   If a person takes more food than their body requires for energy the excess food is laid down as fatty deposits and stored for later use. If these deposits are not used for a period of time they will be overlapped by newer set deposits.   There can be several different types of fatty deposits and experienced therapists would be able to recognise and advice treatment for each type.   Soft fat   • Soft to touch and tends to be fairly superficial • Is it treated with diet, response quickly to treatment and causes no problem for the treatment. • It can be evenly distributed over the body causing the clients to be overweight, or fond in a localised deposit such as it’s tummy. • It is smooth in appearance and often mistaken for poor muscle tone. • Recently acquired (less than 2 years).   Hard fat   • Had to touch. • This is usually a problem that has been around for some time. • The person may feel that they had always had problems with larger legs etc. • Usually found in size and buttocks. • More difficult to treat as a problem area tend to be last to respond. • Exercise and diet together with specific treatment will get the problem under control.   Cellulite   • Stubborn and resistant to normal forms of diet and exercise. • Does not affect men to the same extent as woman. • Recognises as pitting of the skin giving an orange peel affect. • Feels harder than normal. • Areas most affected are thighs, hips and buttocks. • Likely to appear in areas of poor circulation. • Cauliflower effect
